Ani and Princess Anne Spotted on Vacation Together.

On a recent trip to Regina with her two human companions, Ani was spotted as a guest in the same hotel (Hotel Saskatchewan) at the same time as her namesake from the British Royal family. While Princess Anne's trip was widely publicized and involved a number of community events, the more famous Ani was able to fly under the radar and avoid being spotted by the paparazzi. However, unbeknown to her, some of Ani's in-room candid snapshots were posted to flickr by her humans.

When asked to comment on Regina as a tourism destination, Ani said:

The Queen City was perfect for a weekend getaway. I loved the hotel, because it is directly across the street from Victoria Park, which is full of fine grass to roll around on beneath wonderful old shade trees. The only drawback was sleeping under the same roof as Princess Anne as it gave my human companions much fodder for bad jokes and teasing.

This past weekend Ani and Moses packed up and took their people on a roadtrip to Canmore and Lake Louise for a 4-day weekend of hiking and skiing in the sun. Daytime high temperatures hit 17C. Property crime heads to the basement.

The province of Saskatchewan is optimistic about a report released by the Canadian Centre for Justice Statistics that shows a decrease of six per cent in Saskatchewan's total crime rate last year.

Justice Minister Frank Quennell said. "It tells us that targeted approaches like the Regina Auto Theft Strategy and the Saskatoon Break and Enter Strategy are reducing crime in our communities."

Overall reduction in crime was largely due to a 12 per cent decrease in property crime. There was also a 17 per cent drop in motor vehicle thefts and a 14 per cent decline in break and enters.

Nonetheless, humans and dogs are still being affected by crime on a daily basis, as can be witnessed by a recent property crime in Caswell Hill.

Upon arriving home last night from the Saskatoon Open Door Society's 25th Anniversary Celebration, the people of Ani found a bag of ultra-premium, raw food, no grain dog kibbles torn into with half the contents missing. It appears the thieves knew exactly what they were after. Nothing else was touched. The investigation is ongoing, but there is reason to suspect this may have been an inside job.

Ani, the head of the household, was unusually quiet and had not much more than "burp, glup, belch, pffft" to say. Ani's people thought it was unfortunate that this happened while the love of Ani's life, Moses, was staying over as he might get a bad impression of the neighbourhood. While Ani and Moses were both home when the crime occurred, they are only suffering minor gasto-intestinal upset, presumably a result of the trauma of being the victims of crime.

Anticipation and excitement builds as Ani only has one week left to prepare for the extended visit of her best friend Moses. Slowly but surely Ani has been crossing items off her to do list:
1) bake treats
2) ~~bathe~~
3) clean the house
4) ~~clear the snow off the deck so we can lounge romantically in the warm spring sun~~
5) ~~clean Kong~~
6) buy peanut butter.

It promises to be a fun 6 weeks of sleepovers while Moses' people are in India. "Waiting for Moses to arrive is the hardest part ... I sure hope he likes it here", Ani was heard saying last night in her sleep. Secretly Ani is also hoping Moses will be a help in her ongoing battle with that damn cat, Benjamin (see photo with Benjamin, aka Bin Apples, looking over Ani's shoulder as he plots out his own list for Moses).

Snowstorm Hits Saskatoon

According to Environment Canada, the blizzard that hit Saskatoon on January 10th was the worst blizzard Saskatchewan has experienced in the past 50 years. Ani, being bread from hearty working dog stock (1/3 German Shepherd and 1/3 Rottweiler), knew innately what to do and immediately put herself to work. Duties included clearing trees from roadways and making tracks though snowbanks in an effort to guide her humans through whiteout conditions during their expedition to get milk for the next morning's breakfast.Never one to tire of hard work, upon returning home Ani remained vigilantly on the lookout for stranded cars containing humans. Stranded humans seemed to be the order of the day for non-walking human types, which left Ani wondering how such a helpless species came to invent wonderful things like squeeky hedgehogs and salmon in a tin can.
